Kenai Fjords Glacier Cruise, Seward, Alaska

Blessed with another picture perfect day, one that locals told me NEVER comes this late in the season, I set off on a 6-hour glacier cruise from Seward, Alaska. In what must have been one of the final cruises of the season, we saw everything you could hope to see on the tour. For the price, I couldn’t help but think this was a steal for a day’s worth of entertainment.

More photos and video at the bottom of this post.

What did we see?

  • Two pods of orcas followed our boat with multiple breaches.
  • Ice calving into the sea
  • Harbor seals
  • Mountain goats
  • A late-season puffin that must have missed the migration memo
  • Stellar sea lions soaking up the sun
  • A preening sea otter

The Deets

  • Tour operated by Kenai Fjords Tours
  • $149.00 per person
  • 6 Hour cruise, departed at 11:30am
  • A terrible lunch is included (chicken caesar wrap, water & granola bar)
  • Snack counter with bar service
  • Warm chocolate chip cookie concludes the tour
  • Views are good from all seats on the boat
  • Dress warmly, you’ll be outside on the deck for all interesting things – keep in mind the wind chill from a moving boat!

The Verdict

Along with flightseeing, if you have a beautiful day this excursion is a must-do when visiting Alaska. Bring some good snacks with you – it’s a long journey!
