Alderbrook Resort in Union, WA

Happy 2nd Anniversary to me and my lovely bride Whitney! We’re celebrating at a beautiful little oasis on Hood Canal called Alderbrook Resort and Spa.

Alderbook provides a quick overnight getaway from Seattle. Since I love to ride and the roads and views along the way are always better on two wheels, we loaded up the Triumph Tiger for our first overnight-by-motorcycle excursion together.

You can be as busy as you want to be at Alderbrook. They’ve got a golf course, hiking trails, obviously they have a few fire pits and a large indoor hot tub and pool. They even have picnic-style games scattered around the grounds. I’m always down for a good game of cornhole.

After my big bean bag win, we decided to take a hike up the Huckleberry Hillclimb for views of the canal from the Alderbrook golf course. Whitney was very prepared for this hike, why not hike in flip-flops?

Whitney Rundle... hiking?!Oh that's better

Out of the woods, we’re back to our waterfront room which had a nice little balcony that provided this view of twinkling stars and the ever-majestic Olympic Mountains across Hood Canal.

The next day, we packed up and rode north on Highway 101 along Hood Canal. Where there is a road following water, there will be twisties. I ignored Whitney’s punches to my ribs when I went for a little extra lean into the turns.

Across the Hood Canal bridge, instead of making a beeline for the Seattle ferries, I suggest taking a detour. The well-preserved little town of Port Gamble has many well-done Victorian buildings like St. Paul’s Church pictured here.

Don’t forget about Point No Point, which has a large beach with views of Mount Baker, Mount Rainier and the Seattle skyline. Don’t miss those photos in the Point No Point blog post.
